The Kohl’s Credit Card is a retail payment card, which means you can only utilize it for purchases of Kohl’s merchandise. That includes purchases made in Kohl’s stores and online.
Kohl’s Credit Card Overview
It differs from a traditional credit card with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover logo.
If you are in the United States of America, there’s a good choice: you live near a Kohl’s department shop. The company has more than 1,000 sites in 49 states. Kohl’s stores are best known for shoes, accessories, and clothing, but they also offer home furnishings, gifts, and other products.
A retailer co-branded credit card with Capital One, the Kohl’s Card is a good choice for frequent customers looking to save money.
But getting the maximum value from the Card can be complicated as you have to keep track of various sales, promotions, and discounts. And your rewards expire sooner than you can say “shop till you drop” in just a month.
Five things to know about Kohl’s Credit Card:
The credit card offers in-store rewards and discounts — if you can keep the way of them. But it can only be used on call and carries a higher APR. Here are five things to know regarding the Kohl’s Card.
1. Kohl’s Card is a credit card, not a charge card
Although the Card was previously called Kohl’s Charge, it’s a store card, not a charge card. Credit cards allow you to carry a monthly balance and apply interest on unpaid balances, while charge cards need you to pay in total each month.
However, the Kohl’s credit Card is a “closed-loop” store card, which means you can only use it at Kohl’s. (Kohl’s and CapitalOne announced in March 2022 that they plan to launch a new co-branded card “by 2023,” but did not provide details.)
2. You’ll get savings and coupons
Many store credit cards, like the Target REDcard™ Credit Card, give cardholders a discount on every purchase. A calling card is different. Instead of hitting 5% or more at checkout, it returns a percentage of its loyalty currency, Kohl’s Cash, which can be used on future purchases.
Card benefits were linked to the department store’s regular advancements and sales. Here are the main features.
Introductory discounts:
For starters, when you unlock a new Kohl’s Card, you can qualify for one-time savings from the first purchase on your new Card. A typical offer is to save an additional 35% on purchases made within 14 days of card approval.
Kohl’s Coupons:
This Card cardholders receive periodic monthly special discounts in the mail or their electronic Kohl’s Wallet, available on Kohl’s mobile app.
Kohl’s Wallet keeps track of your offers and coupons, so you don’t have to be upset about physical coupons. However, you cannot use coupons across brands and product categories.
Kohl’s Rewards:
Not related to a credit card is Kohl’s loyalty schedule, which is called Kohl’s Rewards. Regular members earn 5% back on investments in the form of Kohl’s Cash, which is allocated in $5 increments on the first of the next month.
Kohl’s Cash earned on purchases expires in 30 days, which is the shortest deadline that can affect the value of rewards. But if you have a Kohl’s Card, you’ll get 7.5% back in the state of Kohl’s Cash instead, which is a nice bump from the normal rate.
Kohl’s Cash:
Cash is a loyalty program currency. Kohl’s often runs promotions where shoppers get a $10 Kohl’s Cash voucher for every $50 they spend. Coupons are available at the time of purchase but can only be used on the dates specified.
This way, shoppers will return to the store without spending money immediately. These discounts are (in addition to) exclusive discounts for cardholders. Kohl’s Cash has less exclusion than Kohl’s coupons, but it does have some.
Cardholders obtain advance notification of Kohl’s credit Card sales events by mail and receive receipt-free returns on purchases made utilizing the Kohl’s Card.
3. Earn High Spender Status:
You earn High-Value Customer status when you spend $600 with Kohl’s Credit Card in a calendar year. That MVC status gives you additional savings and offers throughout the year. You’ll also get exclusive free shipping from time to time, which you can pile with your other Kohl’s offers and Cashback.
4. You shouldn’t carry a balance:
Like many store credit cards, the Kohl’s credit Card comes with a hefty annual percentage rate, meaning interest charges can cost you a lot if you don’t spend off the Card in full each month. The APR fluctuates but is 26.24% as of May 2022. Try to avoid carrying a balance on this Card; Charge what you can spend at the end of the month.
5. You can check if you pre-qualify without a tough pull on your credit:
If you’re interested in Kohl’s Card but worried you won’t qualify, you can check before applying without penalty.
