You can use a Sable checking account to receive your salary/student grants, shop in-store or online, and pay your utility bills.

Sable Credit Card is optional, and they offer secured credit cards – ideal if you have a less credit score or no credit history in the US. These cards had quickly approved, and you can set a credit limit with a deposit equal to your Sable checking account (locked as collateral) while you rebuild your credit score.

Who Should Get a Sable Secured Credit Card?

Like most secured credit cards, the Sable Secured Credit Card had designed to help people with bad or little credit history build their credit.

It has no strict credit requirements, requiring a credit check and a Social Security number (or US credit history). It can also be a good option for those trying to establish a credit history.

The card offers cashback rewards and built-in perks like cell phone insurance and car rental coverage. Considering that most secured credit cards provide rewards or benefits, the Sable Card is lovely.

How and when does the Sable Credit Card Work?

Building Your Credit Score in the US:

The Sable app has inbuilt credit-building guidance that tells you how much to use on a line of credit when to pay your bills, when to apply for a credit limit increase, and more. It will gradually increase your credit score.

Obtaining a checking account in the US:

Even if you have a lower credit score or are new to the US, Sable can set you up with a fully functional checking account.

This account works like a regular high street bank account and can send and receive money from the US and abroad, pay rent and utilities, shop online or in-store, and more.

Send money home (or to someone abroad):

Currently, Sable offers international transfers in 70+ currencies at mid-market rates with Wise (review). And we highly recommend Wise because it’s useful for sending money home or to friends and family living abroad.

Travelling internationally:

The Sable Debit Card is automatically accepted internationally and can be used in 200+ countries where MasterCard was accepted.

Shop online and offline (with Cashback):

Sable offers virtual and physical debit cards that can be used online and in stores in the US and worldwide. You can get 2% cashback with 1% on Amazon, Netflix, Uber, and others.

Withdrawal of Cash:

You can withdraw Cash from your Sable checking account with a debit card, usually without a fee, at all MasterCard ATMs in the US. Other ATMs may charge a fee.

Free payments to friends and family in the US:

Sable integrates with Zelle, Venmo, and CashApp, allowing you to send money faster to other US bank accounts for free.

When doesn’t it work?

Money is locked:

To build or rebuild a credit score, Sable makes getting a credit card without a credit check possible. The downside is that they lock up some of your money while you rebuild your credit score.

But the great news is that you can “graduate” to an unsecured credit card that doesn’t require funds to be locked up “within four months.”

Contactless Card Payments:

Currently, Sable one cards do not support contactless payments in stores. However, they integrate with Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay, meaning you can make contactless mobile wallet payments if your phone or wearable supports it.

Build your savings:

Sable does not offer a savings account, and your money does not earn interest.

Large international transfers or transfers in foreign currencies:

While Wise is known for its affordable prices for small international bank transfers (under $7000$/£4500 GBP/€4500 EU/$9500 CAD AUD), we think better alternatives exist.

Multi-currency support:

Although the Sable card works internationally, you can only load it with US dollars, and if you’re a frequent traveler, it can get pretty expensive with all the fees.

Activating your Sable Debit or Credit Card

Your Sable Debit Card will ship to your US address (provided at the time of account opening) within 7-10 days. You can choose expedited delivery (with a $20 fee) to receive the card in 3-5 days.

To activate the card:
  • Log in to the app
  • Select “Cards symbol.”
  • Choose a debit or credit card
  • Set a 4-digit PIN (this PIN works for both virtual and physical cards)

Applying for your Secure Sable One Credit Card

After setting up your account, you can apply for a Secured Sable One Credit Card in the app. Set a credit limit and fund your Sable account – this amount had locked in and serves as your line of credit for the card.

After that, you will receive the card in the mail, and you can activate it just like your debit card. Each month, you will receive a credit card statement and a due date for your payment. Regular payments and using a portion of your credit line can boost your credit score.

Note: The deposit you make when applying for the card cannot use for credit card payment as it had considered collateral for the card.
